1. Instructional Decisions/Teaching (InTask Standard # 9): Discuss the implementation process and describe
    • What went well and what didn't go well during the implementation of your lesson?
    • How well was the alignment to objectives and standards maintained?
    • Describe any modifications made during the implementation of the lesson

What went well: The students seemed to have liked the scavenger hunt part of the lesson. The instructions on the worksheet were easy to read.

What did not go well: Looking back, we could have spent more time on the direct instruction part of the lesson and gone through more examples to show the class. We could have also had the students work in pairs rather than independently.

I think that our standards aligned well with our lesson.6.G1.1 is to use and construct maps to explain locations of physical bodies. The objective was to have students use technology to learn about geography, which they did by using Google Earth and the Wordwall activity at the end of the lesson.

The modifications we allowed for was to allow students to work with a partner if they requested to.
  1. Mechanics
    • What technologies did I use (for the teacher and the learner)?
    • How were the technologies used (by whom and in what manner)?
    • My lesson was within the correct time frame
      • It was short because…
      • It was too long because…
      • The lesson was within the correct time frame because...

Technologies the teacher used: Google Earth, Word Wall, projector, computer, Powerpoint

Technologies the students used: computer, Google Earth, Word Wall

The teacher used the projector to show the Powerpoint on the screen as well as Google Earth and the Word Wall. The students used their personal computers to complete the scavenger hunt and they watched the Word Wall activity on the projector.

Our lesson ended up being too short (22 minutes). I think we overestimated the time needed to complete the lesson. Next time, I would offer the students more time to do the scavenger hunt or add more time in the direct instruction piece.
  1. Assessment of Learning (InTask Standard # 6): Refer to Assessing Student Learning
    • Include at least 2 digital artifacts that demonstrate what you or your students (peers) have created as a result of your lesson
    • Describe your students' level of success in achieving the standards and objectives for your lesson based on your assessment
    • Describe the level of success you had in teaching the lesson
      • How do your individual reflections support this?
      • How do the comments from your classmates support this?

I think the students were successful in meeting the objective of the lesson because at the end we reviewed their answers on the worksheet and it seemed that they got a majority of the questions correct.
Their responses to the Word Wall were also correct.

I think I could have taught the lesson more effectively if I spent more time on the direct instruction and showed the students more examples before moving on to complete the activity independently. According to the feedback we received, a few students agreed that we could have shown more examples than we did. Now I know for next time.

  1. What did you learn from designing and teaching this lesson and how will you use this in the creation of future lessons/learning activities.

I learned that there are so many different resources for both students and teachers to use in the classroom to learn about technology as well as the other subjects like science, social studies, math, and ELA. I learned that there are many different engaging ways to teach lessons using technology and that technology can be used to teach as well as assess understanding and monitoring student progress.
