Philosophy of Education
Throughout my studies to become an elementary school teacher, I have learned a lot about different educational theories along with the pros and cons that come with each one. I think that every theory has excellent ideas and reasoning behind each one, even if I find that certain theories would be more effective with the modern curriculums in public schools. I do not think there is a “right” theory to implement in the classroom, I think the right theory comes down to the teacher’s unique teaching style and preference. In my future classroom, I would like to use the humanism learning theory, because this theory relies on the concept of self-actualization, which is important to hold students accountable for their behavior as well as their education.
My experience using technology has been extremely relevant especially during these times throughout my college experience because as soon as covid hit, all of my classes transitioned to an online format which consisted of a lot of technology. I use technology a lot in my personal life as well, as we all do. I feel pretty confident with my ability to use technology. Even if I am unsure how to do something using technology, I feel like I am able to pick it up quickly when someone teaches me how.
To me, technology integration simply means integrating technology into curriculum. Since technology is so prevalent in our everyday lives, I think the integration of technology is necessary in the classroom so we can allow our students to build confidence with their ability to navigate technology as well as how they can use it to facilitate their learning.
I plan to use technology in my future classroom by encouraging my students to use programs like Google Slides for students to present their work. I want to make sure my students feel comfortable with technology and are able to navigate resources online easily when they have questions or want to know more about a topic. I am open to using any form of technology in my classroom.
Hi Ellie!
ReplyDeleteHumanism is a great theory to incorporate into the classroom! You're right, I think deciding what theory to use comes down to the teacher and what their students need the most. My mentor teacher once told me that it's okay to try different theories out to see which fits your students needs the most. Your idea of using google slides is great! I have even seen second graders completing google slides to present to their class. It's so interesting to see how tech savvy our students are.
I love how you said there is no right teaching theory. I agree! The right teaching theory is the one you can use to effectively teach your students which is not the same for everyone. Technology through covid has been an eye opener for me, I didn't know half of the options existed and they have been so useful to learn to be able to use in the future. I love how students can collaborate and write a single project no matter where they are! It really is amazing.

Hi Ellie, when covid did hit and classes went online, technology was out main source of everything. I think that from that we learn somethings new, I know I did for sure because I had to look information on something I did not know. Teaching the tools to students is very important because they will be using those tools for their personal, school and work life.
ReplyDeleteHi Ellie, I really like how you mentioned using a philosophy that requires students to be accountable of their own behavior and learning. I unfortunately, feel like in today's society, it is so easy to blame the teacher for everything and people forget that students' are responsible as well for their learning. I also liked how you mentioned using technology when COVID hit. I know that there was a lot more in depth learning of some programs I had to do in order to get through this last year. Lastly, I appreciate how you mentioned you want students to be comfortable using technology as that is the world we live in now.
ReplyDeleteHi Ellie,
ReplyDeleteI like your perspective on things. Teachers should absolutely be willing to adapt to their students needs and I'm sure we'll have to implement many different theories in order to help fulfill their abilities. I am just like you with being open to the use of technology in the classroom. It was interesting going virtual for a bit. I myself was not a fan and love that we're back in action! As for our future classrooms in today's day in age kids know more about technology than I do. They'll teach me just as much as I them.
